When I was in Junior High, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness become one of the most popular albums. I would lie in bed daydreaming with my stereo playing 1979 which I had taped off Q101. Zero and Bullet with Butterfly Wings powered my pubescent angst.

Twenty years later, I am listening to the album again and it is the opening two tracks that stand out to me. The title track is a tranquil welcome to the world that the Smashing Pumpkins are going to create for us and then Tonight, Tonight starts right up with a strong guitar of James Iha. The contrast makes Tonight, Tonight an even better song.

Listening again on its twentieth anniversary, Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness remains a great album. Certainly worth a listen if it has been a while for you as well.
