The start of this Ted talk could just as easily be about Web Design and Web Development as it is about building design and building construction.  The fields are often compared incorrectly, but we do share a lot of commonalities.  The designer/architect is rarely the one constructing it while the building engineer/web engineer might be pleased to allow function to rule over aesthetics.  Joshua Prince-Ramus captures a lot of these challenges really well.
